The Mind Is Birthplace Of Confidence

I have been hearing people that are experts in their field say “you have to dress for success!”  Giving you the notion that if you do dress for success, that you will be able to have much more success in whatever you do than not dressing for success and getting mediocre results.

I suppose there is some validity to that statement, for wearing a nice ensemble does seem to boost the mental.  However, I am of the opinion that confidence emanates from the grounds of the mind.  The garden of what lies between the ears is what must first be cultivated!  If this garden is not tended to properly, it does not matter what drapes your shoulders.

I recall some years ago, before being married, my confidence level on a scale of one to ten, was right around 25.  Picking up a family member from the airport, not bothering to dress for public viewing.  I had mustard stain on a white tee shirt, wrinkled sweat pants, and slippers.  I mean it was a sad sight.  I saw someone from the car that I wanted to know better.  I got out of the car, spoke to her, and to make a long story short, we exchanged numbers and the rest is history.  I later found out she was most attracted to the confidence with which I spoke to her!

The same thing hold true for self-defense.  I spend a great deal of time working some of the most timid people, taking them from the type that is afraid to look someone in the eye, to a confident person who is able to walk tall with shoulders back and head up.  Self-defense is more about mental than anything else.  Strengthening your mind will help you handle any self-defense situation!

Here is the bottom line, nothing can take the place of confidence!  If you need help with building your confidence, we are here to help.  Our motto is, “empowerment and a better life for all, through self-defense, and fitness!”

Your Safety Is Priority!

Posted in Safety/Defense, Self Protection with tags , , , , , on January 20, 2010 by ministerofdefense

People are getting more active outside with the weather getting cooler and all. I just hate to see people jogging or something like that all by themselves without any form of protection, whether it be from a human or animal. At least do your activities with a partner so you are not targeted by a predator as being vulnerable because you are alone. Or have something with you that you can use to create some space between you and your attacker.
Many have ask me about the kubaton or mini-stick. Check out this inexpensive personal protection item. This one is designed to fit in your hand so you can place the pointed end into the soft spots of the body… OUCH! This is popular with joggers or people who like to do things by themselves.
Anyway, I still have some of these left but they are going quickly, so let me know if you want one too.

Here is the bottom line, self defense is more about awarness and paying attention to what is going on around you!  Now just because you happen to live in a nice neighborhood or a gated community, does not mean that nothing will ever happen to you!  Chances are, at some point in your life you will be confronted with a choice.  Are you going to be like a dear in the headlights, or are you going to take control and be pro-active about it?  Our goal is for you not to become a victim!

New Friends at EMA

Greetings everyone, this is your Minister of Defense Xavier Smith with a quick not about my time with the Entrepreneurial Mothers Association!  The picture above shows the wonderful group of ladies I had the pleasure of speaking to!  As a leader in self-defense and awareness training, I find the best part of my job is meeting people and helping show them that there are simple things they can do to avoid becoming a victim.

I had the honor of sharing a few simple yet effective self-defense techniques with this group and no one had to break a sweat.  I spoke for a few minutes, asked for questions and before long we were having a conversation about safety and self-defense.  It feels good to help others shift to a mindset of pro-action and awareness.

My hope is that more people will think just a bit differently when it come to personal safety and the safety of their loved ones.  It is just a great feeling to be able to open up the dialog and witness people changing the habits for the better…going from oblivious to more aware, and that was the purpose for me being there!

I am just glad I could help!  If you are in need of safety, self -defense, and or fitness needs, please let us know how we can be of service to you.  Let us provide a solution to you.

Bridal Expo Not Just For Weddings Anymore!

Posted in Safety/Defense with tags , , , , , , , on January 11, 2010 by ministerofdefense

Hey there everybody, this is you Minister of Defense Xavier Smith, and I have some thoughts about my time spent this weekend at the the bridal show in Phoenix.  My business partner and I had a great time meeting and greeting people this past Saturday and Sunday!  There were many different businesses there with solutions for all things related to getting married!  And then there was us.  Not only could you have gotten your DJ, cake and other wedding arrangements taken care of but you could have also gotten your concealed carry permit done as well!  Some people were really open to the idea of booth all about safety, awareness and protection at a bridal expo, and others…well, perhaps they were not as progressive as we were.

Who would have thought that at a bridal show, you could get your self-defense, and personal protection need taken care of?  Well we were there, we came and we conquered.  As it turns out, my partner and I had a pretty good day at the office!  People were attracted to the Taser demos that took place, and we just about sold out of the pepper sprays we had on hand!  On Sunday, I did not have time to take a break!  It was awesome!  I have to say it feels good to know that we were helping people feel more secure and safe.  Once people realized we were about more than just weddings but more about everyday life, things really started happening.

People left our booth with smiles on their faces, and one woman even thanked us for being there!  That is what it is all about.  Providing solutions for everyone, no matter what the venue!

What are we doing about Domestic Violence?

Posted in Safety/Defense, Self Protection with tags , , , , , , on January 6, 2010 by ministerofdefense

Greetings everyone.  This is your Minster of Defense, Xavier Smith with a quick note on an issue that effects everyone!  I am talking about domestic violence!  This is a sad fact but it is real, but by the time I get done writing this post, someone, whether man or woman will be personally effected by domestic violence!  Let us explore this a bit.  Domestic violence can be anything from verbal threats or speaking to someone in a degrading tone to an all out assault!  What’s worse, is you know someone who is going through it.  Perhaps it is you, and you don’t know what to do about it, or you are scared to do anything about it!

Whether it is you or someone you know, please understand that no one has the right to put their hands on you in any kind of threatening way, and there are resources available to you that you probably did not know about!  If you need help, it is here for you!  Visit the Community Alliance Against Family Abuse or go to the website www.caafaaz.org.  This is one place that you need to know about.

Every nine seconds a woman is abused.  It took me 12 minutes to write this.  You do the math.  Let us all wake up and do something about reversing the trend of d0mestic violence.  I am standing up to help.  What about you!

This is Xavier Smith, and I am singing off!  To your safety.

Talk To The Hand, Simple Simple Self-Defense Maneuvers

Posted in Safety/Defense with tags , , , , , , on December 30, 2009 by ministerofdefense
Hello again, this is your Minister of Defense, Xavier Smith, coming to you with some tips on your personal safety!  I know we are all supposed to be happy and jolly right about now with the coming of the new year and all.  However, there are those that like to take advantage of our good spirits, and I am of the belief that we should all be lovers of peace, and as such, we should all be prepared to preserve peace by any means necessary!  So this one is for the ladies.

Self-defense is not about going toe-to-toe, blow-for-blow with anyone.  Self-defense is about not becoming a victim and using simple yet effective technique that does not involve fancy martial arts moves that take years to learn.  The system of defense as taught by Xcellent Solutions incorporates natural and instinctive moves that are second nature and easy to employ.  For example, if you know how to raise your hand, you know how to defend yourself.  Take a look at this picture.

As you can see, I got too close for comfort and this simple hand to the face can make a grown man tear up!

Have you ever been in a rush and someone is in the bathroom so you ball your fist up and bang on the door to tell that person to hurry up?  Well that same technique can be applied in a self-defense scenario with really effective results, as you can see below.  All it takes is confidence and a little knowledge of where to place these techniques for the most effective way to get yourself to safety!  I am sure you will have questions about this.  If so, please let us know how we can be of service to you.

Products To Help Keep You Safe!

Posted in Safety/Defense with tags , , , , , , on December 19, 2009 by ministerofdefense

Greetings everyone and a merry Christmas to you all!  I will get to the point.  This is the time of year that everyone is supposed to be happy and full of glee, right?  Well for the most part, that is the case!  However, there are some that are naughty and have nothing but evil within and their only wish to cause you harm.  As such I thought is prudent to talk about some products that are inexpensive and do well as far as helping you avoid becoming a victim to someone’s evil intention.

Many people, myself included like to make others aware that they are being watched even when it is not me that is doing the watching.  But you might think, camera systems are expensive right?  Perhaps, but what about the alternative?

Pro-Dummy-Cam

Make them think you are watching!

This camera is one of my favorites because it does perform a function but you do not have to break the back to do it!  People seem to be a bit more civil when they “think” they are being watched.  How much is your safety worth?  Now there are camera systems that are more functional but for the person looking for an alternative, this camera system is a fine choice.

Now let’s talk about your personal safety!

Ninja style Kubotan from Got My Defense Gear

You Are Not a Victim

This key chain “Ninja Style” kubotan is a very popular item with females and real estate agents.  Used the correct way, you will have no problem getting out of a sticky situation, should you be confronted.  For more about this, check out the video here.>>>

Then there those who do not want to get the hands dirty and want to keep people at a distance.  Perhaps pepper spray is the solution for you?  The picture below is one of the more popular ones for personal protection.  They work on wild animals too!  And the best thing is that all three products are less than $30.

Got My Defense Pepper Spray

So do you have what you need to stay protected?  Well if not, we have the solution for you!  The question is, what kind of solution can we provide for you?

News About Your Safety In the Valley

Posted in Safety/Defense with tags , , , , , , , on December 9, 2009 by ministerofdefense

Greetings everyone, this is your Minister of Defense with a note about your personal safety!  I am a bit concerned today for I turned on the television and learned about a few alarming facts concerning people doing evil.  You need to be aware that there are two men in the valley posing as your neighbor gaining access to your home.  One man attempts to distract the home owner/apartment dweller while the other male attempts to take things from your home!

Let’s wake up people and approach these situations with a little caution.  I know it is the holiday season and all but not everyone that wears a smile has good intentions within.

The other incident was about a home invasion in PARADISE VALLEY!  Yes that’s right, Paradise Valley of all places.  You would think that nothing every happens to anyone in that area.  The unfortunate fact is that sentiment is shared by far too many people these days!  listen, your zip code means nothing when it comes to someone who intends to cause you harm!  A gated community is just a minor challenge to some professional wrong doers, so let’s wise up and be pro-active about awareness and protection!

We do not have to be victims to these cowardly acts of violence and wrong-doing!  There are simple things you can do to prevent becoming a victim, and it does not involve fancy or complicated martial arts moves!  What is wish to convey to you is just by making a decision to be more aware of your surroundings, you will immediately increase your chances of not becoming a victim!  So keep your eyes peeled, walk tall, with your shoulders back, and present yourself as if you belong here!  This simple adjustment will go a long way toward letting others know that you are not a victim!  If you need some help with mind-set training or self-defense technique training, we are mobile and we love to help empower you to create the life you deserve!

This is your Minister of Defense and I am signing off!

Staying Safe While Traveling

Posted in Safety/Defense with tags , , , , , , , on November 29, 2009 by ministerofdefense

Greetings everyone, this is your Minister of Defense, Xavier Smith, with a note on safety. This is more specifically for women who happen to travel either for work or pleasure. In my line of work, I come across many people with varied thoughts and habits related to personal safety, and I have to say that I am both surprised and alarmed by what I have witnessed. I recently had a conversation with someone who I am now comfortable calling my friend; the Divine Miss White, also known as Cathrine White. Talk about an empowered woman! She is empowerment personified, and if every woman had the passion, will, and mind set that she possesses, I am afraid there would be no need for what I do as a self defense instructor.

The subject of our conversation was safety for women while traveling. I was honored when Miss White asked me to give my thought as the authority on this matter. I mentioned earlier that Cathrine is the embodiment of empowerment. What I did not mention, is all that she has gone through to get to where she is today. It is my goal to share some information with you to be filed in your “mental toolbox” so that you do not have to go through some of the things that Miss White and many other women have gone through. The fortunate fact is, Miss White is still with us but there are also a large number of other women who have been met with personal injury or a much worse fate because basic rules of self defense and awareness were either ignored or were not known about. It is my desire to reverse that trend.

I was so inspired by our conversation, that I thought it would be prudent to share some basic rules with you designed to raise your awareness level so as to avoid becoming a victim or statistic.

Rules To Live By When Traveling

  • Always keep your most powerful weapon with you! I am not talking about the latest and greatest product on the market, or something you can order on line. I am talking about the matter in between your ears. The mind is your best protection against becoming a victim, bar none! The trouble is, we humans and our “developed society” often is the cause for us not listening to that internal alarm, keeping us from danger. Did you know, that humans are the only beings that will feel danger and intentionally walk into it?

  • Use all of your faculties at all times. This is not only true when traveling, but is should be employed at all times! Many years of military service has left me with a mind set that I am always being watched! It has served me well to this day. God gave the use of sight, touch, taste, smell, and hearing. As such, you should not concern yourself with being rude to someone if one or all of senses tells you that something is wrong. There are countless women that could have avoided sexual assault because they did not want to be rude and got on that elevator despite their gut felling.

  • Be more pro-active! In addition to walking with a purpose, with head up and shoulders back, you should also keep your eyes scanning back and forth for anything that may cause alarm. I see far too many women totally engrossed in texting on the phone to a point that they do not even see the car that has come within inches of hitting them. Just imagine if someone was watching them or lying in wait for them because they knew that person’s pattern? It has happened.

  • Keep your mind set right. Most don’t have clue as to what they would do if they were confronted with aggression. Therefore, you should always be thinking in terms of “what if” scenarios. I think everyone should have the basics of self defense because it keeps you in the right mind set, and you have a better chance of surviving an attack when you have learned and practiced some basic self defense techniques.

  • Lastly, you must be willing to use what you know! My philosophy is, it is better to be prepared and not use it than not prepared and need it! Chance favors the prepared. It has been my experience that once you have the confidence afforded to you by self defense and awareness training, you will not even need to use it. However, that spare tire sure comes in handy when you are stranded with a flat tire doesn’t it? Well your safety is no different!

Well I hope that this information has been helpful to you as you can never have enough information about your safety.   If you have questions about this, I am here to help.  You can call 1-888-274-7730 or visit http://ICanDefendMyself.com and sign up for a basic self defense course!  I will cover this subject in more detail in later posts but for now let this soak in and stay safe.

This is you Minister of Defense, and I am signing off.

To your safety.
